Brown Spotting

Hi all I am about 6 weeks pregnant. Yesterday I worked out after some time. I did some light weights and squats. Few hours later I had brown spotting just when I wiped. Today is a little thicker and even a slight clump. Is this normal? I’m worried. I don’t have an ultrasound for two weeks when I will be eight weeks.

  1. Do you typically work out? Light weights and squats wouldn’t be worrisome I wouldn’t think, no matter what your workout routine was before you became pregnant.

    1. Not recently . I was feeling really tired so I thought excerise would help. I went to the ER they said they couldn’t hear a heartbeat, and it could be because I am miscarrying or that it is too early. The symptoms could indicate that as well. Today after the ER I had some red spotting as well. I read post where I could be ok but I am just waiting on a follow up with my doctor now. If my hcg levels don’t increase ( they were low) then the baby could have stopped growing. Let’s hope for the best. I mentioned my excerise but the doctors couldn’t conclude that was the reason.

      1. Smart that you’re following up with your doctor. Try not to worry—6 weeks is early for a heartbeat. I didn’t hear one with either of my kids at that point. With my last pregnancy, I also had regular hcg testing early on and everything turned out ok. Stay hopeful! Sending prayers your way.

  2. I agree with everything written here regarding the early ultrasound and that at this point following hcg levels are your best bet. Many women have some brown discharge or even light spotting at this point in pregnancy and go on to have completely normal pregnancies. I want you to know for certain you did not cause any damage by exercising! You might start to go down the path of “what if…” but we know exercise of this level does not lead to miscarriage. Following up with your doctor is a great plan, and I wish you the best!
