Toothpaste!
My dentist just recommended a toothpaste that is fluoride free, but has a natural ingredient ( a derivative of chocolate) that functions like fluoride. I am super excited about this!! I have read many articles about fluoride that scare me, but I also know that fluoride protects teeth and prevents cavities. I am so glad that I have found this product! I will warn you, it is expensive. I paid $10 for one regular sized tube at whole foods. Whole Foods is the only place in New Orleans that carries it, but of course you can get I online. It is called Theodent.
Wondering if there is any data behind this recommendation – has it been studied on human teet… -
Doulas seeking wider acceptance
We’ve previously written about what doulas are, in case you’re not familiar with the term or what their exact role is: http://www.bundoo.com/articles/what-is-a-doula/ But with the use of doulas becoming more and more popular, some are still looking for better acceptance in the medical field. Some are also requesting that their services be covered by health insurance: http://www.bundoo.com/articles/what-is-a-doula/ Did you use a doula? Would you have if it was covered by your insurance?
I did not but have many families in my practice who used a doula with great success. For me, having… -
Early Puberty Epidemic
I came across this article yesterday and it really got me thinking. I used to buy mostly, if not all, organic products. As of lately, I have been buying more of a mix (conventional & organic). The cost of buying only organic was just getting to be too expensive. I wonder if there is any truth to the rise in early puberty epidemic being a result of all of the things we are putting into our children’s bodies. I am very interested to see what you guys think…thoughts??? http://www.healthy-holistic-living.com/early-puberty-epidemic.html
You’re welcome! I agree, sometimes it seems everything we do is soon followed by an article/m… -
Cultured Veggies?
Wondering if any of you guys keep cultured veggies in your fridge? I have been doing some reading, and am thinking of trying it. I have become a huge fan of Kefir, and feel good about giving it to my son daily in smoothies. It seems like there is more and more research revealing the importance of a healthy gut! I would love to hear about any experience with the veggies!
My daughter loves the Lifeway ProBugs kefir, but we’ve never tried cultured veggies and I don… -
Cough/Cold remedies
Any suggestions for what to give my almost 16-month-old son for a cough/cold? He started the cough yesterday, but it’s just random coughing, doesn’t last, no fever or other symptoms. I just don’t want the cough to hurt his throat and lead to other symptoms or for it to get any worse.
Just make sure to avoid honey under a year of age as it has been known to cause botulism in infants… -
Cloth Diapers
Any other cloth diapering families in here? I started a Cloth Diapering group and would love any input about your favorites brands, types, washing methods, etc.

Back to school cold
My two year old son just started a new daycare/preschool. Even though I knew it was coming, I am still upset by the stuffy runny nose that has started after only one week:( I rubbed coconut oil with lavender and eucalyptus EO on his chest. that seemed to help some, but I am wondering what other natural cold remedies have been helpful to other parents for relieving cold symptoms. Thanks!
Great question! The American Academy of Pediatrics updated its guidelines for Vitamin D and Calciu…
