Planning pregnancy at the age of 30
Hello, I’m not sure if I sound stupid. Still lemme ask. I have just gotten married 2 months ago. I have always had a desire to be a mother. I n my husband have a very busy work schedule. Sometimes we dnt even get to sit together fr days. Sex is out of question coz of this. Sometimes I do night shift n he days. That makes it more worse. Anyways, we cant really do anything about the work timings really. I recently had periods n a little spotting for 3-4 days after a week of my periods with terrible stomach aches n all. I visited gynac n she did a UPT n test was negative. She gave sm medicines n concluded that its due to hormonal changes. My question is due you really have hormonal changes after marriage even if u dont have frequent Sex? N second most imp.question, how do I work out things that we get time for each other and plan pregnancy? Thanks 🙂
Can you and/or your husband plan your schedules in advance? Perhaps you could look at the next 3-4 … -

Should you skip folic acid?
In my opinion, no! But some recent media coverage may have pregnant women thinking they should: http://fxn.ws/UH76dU Some researchers have recently said that the traditional form of folate that women get in their prenatal vitamins (folic acid) may not be the right type of folate for all women, including those who have a certain gene mutation called MTHFR mutation – this mutation may make it difficult for their bodies to metabolize the folate in folic acid form. I am a little confused because they still suggest supplementing with folic acid, but they recommend adding in a methylated form of it called MTHF. The lead commenting physician is a naturopathic physician, and while I am all for complementary medicine I think we should hold off on any sweeping changes to what pregnant women put in their body until we have rigorous data. This article even says (buried way down deep, unfortunately), “In fact, according to an article in the Natural Medicines Comprehensive Database— a resource for health professionals that provides evidence-based reviews of dietary supplements and alternative therapies— there is no evidence that MTHF is any better than folic acid, even in people who have the MTHFR gene variants .” We also don’t want to scare women away from folic acid, which we know skipping can definitely cause problems!! And they kind of make it sound like taking folic acid is dangerous. Sigh. Take-home: Take your prenatal vitamins. Take extra folic acid if you have risk factors (covered in our Bundoo article here http://fxn.ws/UH76dU If you’ve been diagnosed with MTHFR mutation, talk with your doctor, but know that we don’t have a ton of data regarding what this media coverage is talking about, yet.

Would you buy a pregnancy test from the dollar store?!
So here’s a list of 15 things you should buy at a dollar store because there’s not much difference in quality and the items are so much less expensive! But #7 on this list is Pregnancy Tests… What do you think? Have you ever used one? Would you trust a dollar store pregnancy test? http://finance.yahoo.com/news/definitely-buy-15-things-dollar-160041589.html
Meh, I’m all for Dollar Store pregnancy tests! Kind of like generic prescription drugs, it… -
Few women really understand the birds and the bees, study finds
A new study has showed that very few women in the U.S. know key details about getting pregnant, good preconception care, etc. In this study, only 10% of women knew when they were most likely to get pregnant! Others believed in myths such as propping a pillow under your bottom to help conceive. Interesting read! http://n.pr/1i4K5bW
So interesting, and I’ll admit the pregnancy window was something I’ve looked up before… -
How long were you together before getting pregnant?
Sometimes when someone finds out that my husband and I have been together for 12 years (married 8) and we don’t have kids yet, it can turn awkward. (You don’t? Why not??) I feel like I have to justify why it’s taken so long (unemployment, money, etc.). Is there a “time frame” that people think is the best amount of time? Do you wish you had done it sooner or later?
I don’t think there is timeline to when u should have kids. When u and your partner decide to… -
Phthalates may be linked to preterm birth
http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/11/18/us-chemicals-cosmetics-idUSBRE9AH15620131118 And I say “may” because this study was not really designed to be able to make that statement 100%. In this study, women’s urine samples were collected over their pregnancy. Women with higher phthalate levels gave birth prematurely more often. This study noted that correlation, but could not say it was a causation (that is, could be directly blamed on the chemical itself). Phthalates are often found in plastics and many shampoos, creams, and other cosmetics. I personally avoid them when I can (and a few other nasty chemicals) by carefully selecting my shampoos, soaps etc. Do you?
I had heard about the dangers of some of the chemicals used in toiletries and cosmetics before gett… -
Americans think women should start families by age 25 – what do you think?!
Interesting survey results that some Americans think that women should have kids by age 25, yet they think dads should be 26 or older. I say no fair! http://www.businessinsider.com/americans-think-women-should-get-pregnant-by-25-2013-11 What do *you* think is the best age?

Timing for 2nd child
Is there a recommended time to wait between pregnancies from a health standpoint? I have Type 1 Diabetes and am in excellent control as far as that goes (6.1 a1c), but I still feel like I’m not as healthy as I was before my first pregnancy (15 months post-partum now). I have continued to take my vitamins, folic acid, and iron tablets throughout pregnancy, breastfeeding for 14.5 months, and even still now. I can tell my hair and nails are still not healthy yet. I heard or read somewhere that you should wait at least 2 years between pregnancies to allow your body to heal and recover completely. Can anyone provide any research or insight on the subject?
Sounds like a great plan, good luck! -
