Flu Vaccine Season!
I know I’m preaching to the choir here but it’s nearly flu season. Your child’s doctor should be receiving flu vaccine in the form of a shot or mist soon if they don’t have it already. The AAP recommends all babies six months and older be vaccinated. Here’s a news story that discusses the most up to date recommendations. http://consumer.healthday.com/infectious-disease-information-21/flu-news-314/children-should-get-flu-vaccine-as-soon-as-possible-679663.html The flu shot recommendations can be confusing, do any of you find them difficult to understand?
It is important not to confuse influenza with the common cold. The 1918 flu pandemic infected 500 m… -

Why the pertussis vaccine is so important in pregnancy!
A recent study has shown that pertussis (or whooping cough) cases are up 30% from January to mid-August this year as compared to last. Because of this, OBGYNs continue to strongly recommend that pregnant women receive the Tdap vaccine to protect themselves and their newborn babies against this. This isn’t a new recommendation, but it continues to be so important given the increase in cases. More details here: http://bit.ly/1tZnSob In addition, here is our article that discusses why the pertussis vaccine is so important in pregnancy, and why it is considered safe: http://bit.ly/1tZnSob And lastly, more information on pertussis and what it is: http://bit.ly/1tZnSob

Vaccinations-It's Not Your Choice
I couldn’t agree more with this article. I am 100% in favor of vaccinations. Do you feel that vaccinating your children should even be an option? http://www.scarymommy.com/vaccinations-its-not-your-choice/

Do you feel like giving your child vaccines indicates that you trust their pediatrician?
This interesting editorial came out this week. It’s about the relationship between vaccinations, trust, and the doctor-patient relationship. I would love to hear how our Bundoo families feel about this topic. http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2014/01/30/the-real-reason-pediatricians-want-you-to-vaccinate-your-kids.html

Personal Choice?
I overheard a few moms at my son’s school this morning sharing their concerns over giving certain vaccines to their children. As a mother, would you jump into this conversation to promote the benefits of immunizing your child or do you think it is a personal choice? How would you respond?
I totally agree with all of the above comments. It is foolish not to vaccinate. My ex and I argued … -
This is why we vaccinate…
Here’s a link to a story of an outbreak of, yet another, vaccine-preventable illness. Since my son isn’t old enough to have the MMR vaccine, it scares me to think that he’s at risk if he is in an environment with people who choose not to vaccinate themselves or their children. http://www.nbcnews.com/health/measles-outbreak-tied-texas-megachurch-sickens-21-8C11009315

Spreading the word that vaccines & autism are not linked
I have had a hard time with the realization that many people are still unsure of whether vaccines can cause autism. The evidence shows that this link does not exist and pro-vaccine parents can be a powerful source of information for parents who are still struggling with the controversy. Does anyone have any experiences or information sources to share that others can use to help inform family members, fellow parents or themselves?
I think that pediatricians are getting much better about answering and anticipating parents’ … -
Report from CDC: Vaccine Rates High, But Still Need Improvement
A report from the CDC identifies the rate of kindergarten vaccination by state… Although we’re doing well, the US hasn’t quite met the goal of 95% vaccination set by an upcoming government campaign.
