Abnormality thick placenta

Abnormality thick placenta

I am 23 weeks pregnant at 44. So this is a very tough journey for me, 4 months already of psychological stress. 20 and 22 weeks ultrasound revealed an abnormaly thickened placenta which is between 4.5-6cm. Normal is max 4cm-5cm max which is at term. Very mature to gestational age per the perinatalogist. The worry here if the baby is getting enough nutrition through the placenta. My perinatalogist said that surface of the placenta has abnormally different appearance than the the normal. In the ultrasound i could really see the placenta almost touch the amniotic sac on baby’s face. There should be a space in between. The placenta is by the way located in upper lateral side of the uterus according to the sonographer. Baby is in breech position. A close monitoring via ultrasound monthly is recommended at 26 wks- 30– 34 etc to the see if baby is growing well. If there is a restriction of growth, then we will discuss the next step. He said i have to monitor the baby’s movement closely by 24-28 weeks, i have to watch for bleeding, clear fluid drainage, severe cramping.
Does anyone has an experience of a thick placenta with an outcome of a normal/ healthy baby delivered to term or delivered earlier than due date? Thank you

  2. Thank you Dr. Lincoln, yes I am so glad, and i had already so much stress during the CVS and Amnio fish and micro-array due to a tetraploidy result though the Cytogeneticist believed it is only extraembryonic tissue or could be a fragment from the abnormal placenta. Followed by my regular OB and Perinatologist and there could be a potential transfer of care from my OB to the Perinatologist due to the risk at the maternal fetal specialty center.
