Alicia Silverstone's Advice

I just don’t understand why so many celebrities think they are experts in childbirth and parenting. What are your thoughts after reading this article?

  1. I heard a radio show last week discussing the advice in her book, and I wondered if her opinions are backed up by research. I want to read the book! I’m always a bit on-guard when a celebrity uses their influence to spread expert-positioned advice. With great influence comes great responsibility, and I hope she provided either research to back up her claims, or that she makes it clear that the book is the opinion of one (very famous) mama.

    1. I was wondering the same thing in regards to the research. How trustworthy is her information??

  2. She may be right on some of these topics but if I were to take some of her advice I wouldn’t do so without some research to back it up! There are so many articles these days that want to state how just about anything and everything in the household can cause some sort of serious illness unless it is organic and I am tired of reading it all! I grew up in a house with NOTHING organic and I am still alive and healthy.

  3. Celebrities write books to sell books. Parents are busy and have little time to read anything let alone to sift through what may or may not be backed by science. Stick with trusted sources of information and save your fun reading for something fun!

    1. Such a good point. I do love a good celeb bio book (hello Tori Spelling!), so I’ll save my celeb reading for those and People. 🙂

    2. Couldn’t agree more Dr. Sara! Her “advice” on fertility and vaccines is so far off the mark in this book that I can’t imagine there is much to make up for it…
