Pregnancy anxieties. Come join in!

What worried you most in pregnancy? Did other people scare you about certain things or did you read something on the Internet that freaked you out? Did you have a nagging worry that never went away, despite how silly it may have seemed? Let’s see what other moms have to say 🙂

  1. I’ll throw in mine – with my first pregnancy, I was just worried about labor and how it would feel – despite doing this everyday, it’s still impossible to know what contractions feel like until you have them, so I was a bit scared. With my second pregnancy, the thing I was most worried about was making sure I’d have childcare all set up for when I went to the hospital! I didn’t want to be stuck at home so long waiting for someone to come watch my son that I might deliver at home. Funny how things change from one pregnancy to the next!

  2. With my first, I was worried about silly things like the nursery being finished before he arrived! I really didn’t put much thought into actually birthing the kid! Haha! With my second, I was worried about every little thing for some reason. I counted down the days to 24 weeks pregnant because I know plenty of babies survive at that point. I don’t know why I was so worried about delivering early! Now, I hardly have time to worry about anything at all. The days go by so quickly! But I guess making sure someone can watch the other two during the birth and after is a big one!

    1. Isn’t it so true the nursery is the last thing they really need (especially if you co-sleep or room share!), yet I think all of us moms have this need to get it done and perfect! I was right there with you!

      1. So true! My second’s room was just recycled from my first, so I didn’t even have to think about that. And even then, it wasn’t all done until she was like 6 months old! Ha!

    2. Do you have family close by who can be available to watch your kids when you head into the hospital?

      1. We do have lots of family close by, but it’s still a worry. And I hate to inconvenience anyone. I don’t do scheduled inductions (or pain meds!), but this is one instance when I’d kind of love to be able to plan ahead!

        1. Don’t worry about inconvenience! I am sure people would love to help and be part of the birth story!!

  4. I was always worried about my toddler hurting the baby. He was so rough. He would be gentle for a few minutes then rough again like he forgot he was supposed to be easy. Also, I know “they” say not to lift more than what…30 lbs.? But how was I supposed to not lift him when he wanted or needed me to?

    1. Yes, I never really appreciated the lifting issue until I had one 30 pounder of my own to lift the second time around 🙂 I wrote a bit about that here: https://www.bundoo.com/qotd/lift-while-pregnant/

    2. And I think your worry about older siblings being rough is such a shared (and realistic!) worry. I think can be broadened to how second (and third and fourth…) time moms have much different anxieties: How can I love this new baby as much as my first? How will my first react and am I ruining their little world? How will we sleep?!?!

    3. We’ve got a nice article about introducing siblings to new babies here for anyone who needs it: http://www.bundoo.com/articles/introducing-your-new-baby-to-older-siblings/

  5. I think body image is also a huge anxiety for pregnant women. Between worrying about weight gain (or loss), stretch marks, swollen feet, complexion changes, etc, there is so much to focus on and forget your body is doing an amazing thing. Has anyone out there let these types of worries get to them??
