Confused and Frustrated about due date!

Confused and Frustrated about due date!

Hello there. I am 39 yrs old with 2 grown kids and one on the way. It’s been a long time since I’ve been pregnant and it’s just as scary as my 1st. My periods have not been regular for 2 years. I had a period in December and then a very light one in February. Knowing how far along I am is hard to determine. I just had a positive test last week but have been experiencing tender breast, light headedness and nausea for 2 weeks. The first available dr appt I found isntfor another 2 weeks. Here is my dillema. The last couple of days my mid section has noticeably thickened and I have felt what I remeber to be the first fluttering movements of my baby. Am I crazy? How soon was movement felt by you other moms. I remember it being around 5 months. And showing? I’m sure I will have a sono at my 1st appt to determine how far along I am but 2 weeks seems like an eternity to wait for answers. Any thoughts?

  1. Hi Emily, I can see how this would be confusing! If your real last period was in December (and that period you described in February was actually some light first trimester bleeding), then yes you would be experiencing some tummy growth and feel movements now as you’d be about 16 weeks, give or take. However if your real period was actually in February and you were about 7 weeks give or take, it would be too early to feel movement. Any growth in your midsection would be related to bloating, which is definitely noticeable in the first trimester! Many moms describe their bellies seemingly growing overnight and often bigger at the end of the day – but this is all gas, not baby. Short answer: an ultrasound will be the easiest way for you to know exactly how far along you are! Come back and tell us!

    1. Thanks for the info. I can’t wait to find out all though I will be a bit embarrassed if I find out this bump and fluttering are gas. Oh the joys of pregnancy!

  2. With my second baby, I was SO bloated in the first three weeks. I look back now at pictures of me in a swimsuit when I was only 2 weeks pregnant and it’s amazing how much bigger I was just from bloat. (Had I known I was pregnant, I might have been less worried about how I looked but c’est la vie!)

  3. I am 44 too, I have a question for you,, is this your first pregnancy? did you notice that this one is different if not, such as, your tummy is bigger even though you were still in first month? implantation bleeding? etc
