Doctors are way too quick to diagnose ADHD

I’ve always thought this myself, and this article, in my opinion, confirms. I hope you will enjoy this article as much as I did…

  1. I agree and think this is great. People need to provide their children with structure and consistency which in turn gives them security. Nothing angers me more than when I see young children out at let’s say 9 or 10 pm. And on a Wednesday! What are they doing? Put those kids to bed! I am strict with my son’s schedule. We eat at the same time everyday, go to bed at the same time, etc. They need this. They need to know what is next. Dinner, bath, books, and bed. It makes them feel secure and less anxious or scared.

    1. You couldn’t be more right. I preach structure and consistency all the time. Kids thrive with firm boundaries in place and are much more at ease when they know the routine. How many times will your child watch the same movie, or eat the same food for dinner over and over. This is evidence that they thrive on routine and structure, it’s where they are most comfortable and secure for certain.

    2. I couldn’t agree more! And Dr. Anderson, I had never thought about it like that before. I can’t tell you how many times my little brother watched “Honey, I Shrunk the Kids!” when we were younger. I literally cannot stand to see it if it’s ever on TV…and I guess it goes to show kids need repetition!!

  2. VERY interesting read. I think my 5-year-old niece is going through this right now. She has been diagnosed with ADHD, but her home life has always been absolutely insane. No structure, no routine, different rules at her mom’s house than at her dad’s, etc. It seems like those facts haven’t even been taken into consideration when analyzing her troubled behavior at school. It makes me really sad for her, and angry that more research isn’t even being considered in her treatment.
