Dry patch on baby's face – HELP!

My LO has had a small patch of bumpy dry skin on her cheek since birth – almost 12mo now. Her pediatrician said it could be baby acne or a mild splotch of eczema. Thoughts? Treatment options? It’s not especially noticeable or troublesome but if something can be done to clear it up, I’d like to.

  1. Hi Roxanne! Eczema (aka Atopic Dermatitis) is very common in children. Baby acne, while very common initially is rare at age 12 months. The key to eczema is moisturize! Using a gentle, sent free, dye free emollient on her check once or twice a day often helps. If uncomfortable (itchy) you pediatrician can recommend a medication, but for babies with very little discomfort that is often unnecessary. As we head into the warmer months watch for worsening after sunscreen application or after swimming as both can irritate. Find products made specifically for children with eczema as they are often free of the most common irritants.
