How long were you together before getting pregnant?

How long were you together before getting pregnant?

Sometimes when someone finds out that my husband and I have been together for 12 years (married 8) and we don’t have kids yet, it can turn awkward. (You don’t? Why not??) I feel like I have to justify why it’s taken so long (unemployment, money, etc.). Is there a “time frame” that people think is the best amount of time? Do you wish you had done it sooner or later?

  1. Nope- because you’re never “ready.” Doesn’t matter whether you’re together 6 months or 12 years, you might not ever be 100% certain it’s the “right” time.

    1. I agree… I was “ready” with the little stick showed the double lines instead of the single one I was used to seeing when I freaked out and took a test! My husband and I were together almost 11 years and married for 10 months when that extra line said, “Ready or not, here we go!” 🙂

  2. There are so many factors in deciding when to start a family that there is no right or wrong time. Both you and your husband need to be on the same page about when. If you are not there together than it is too soon. There are no deadlines. Taking time to enjoy being a couple is very important. Once you start a family there is no going back in time. Best to start when it is something that you both want very much. Being a great couple “in sync” and being parents are both great places to be in life.

  3. I agree with the comments so far – whenever you are both ready is when the best time is for you! That could be a few months or years, or never for some people – and that’s OK too. Having a child is a life-changing experience, and timing it for when you are ready for that is important.

  4. I don’t think there is timeline to when u should have kids. When u and your partner decide to start trying it doesn’t matter how long or short period of time yal have been together. As long as yal feel like it “go” time then start just make sure yal do the b4 we get pregnant check list if your not already pregnant.
