I Dressed Myself Stickers?

I’m thinking of buying or making stickers that say “I Dressed Myself!” Our 2 1/2 year old only wants to wear tutu’s! Do you let kids dress themselves?

  1. Ha, those are cute! (And a great way to tell people that you were NOT the fashion director!)
I do let me son dress himself – he would not let it be otherwise. I love his choices, especially when they don’t match whatsoever. So cute.

  2. I love it! “I dressed myself” stickers serve two purposes. First they give the child an ego boost and sends the message of independence. Kids love it when they can express themselves creatively by putting together an outfit that expresses themselves perfectly. The outfit choice, however does not always match what you would have chosen for the day or outing. This sticker also has a second purpose. It communicates that you are not the one who put the awesome outfit together, as if others couldn’t tell. 🙂 I have always joked about making such a button for my kids. To be honest, there were times I wanted to put one on my husband too. I am happy to see that someone has had the same idea. My kids are now older, but there is still the occasion I would like to have them. 🙂

    1. Oh gosh, this is too funny!
My oldest enjoys dressing himself ‘fancy’ for special occasions. He’s gotten better about matching as he’s gotten older, but there was a time when his idea of fancy was a plaid button-up shirt, a Christmas tie, and orange athletic shorts.
Another time my boys decided to wear costumes (lion and dragon) to Walmart in March. An old man stopped me to say they were cute and then said, “Someday they’ll be mad at you for dressing them like that!” Apparently those stickers would have come in handy that day!
I would also add stickers that say, “Daddy dressed me” because sometimes his choices aren’t the best 😉

  3. With my first child I never let her dress herself but it was never an issue. Now that she is four I do let her and she does fine most days. I gave up on my two year old and let her dress herself everyday. It is just not worth the fight. She usually looks very unmatched and I only hope that people assume she picked out her own clothes. I LOVE this sticker idea and think I may have to order some as well! I am sure there are some people out there that think I am crazy for the way she leaves the house some days!

  4. In college I babysat for a family with two sons, 4 and 6. The four-year-old boy always wanted to dress in feminine clothes (and not to mention they didn’t match or ever fit the occasion). The mom had the cutest engraved pins made that said “I dressed myself today” so she could feel better about ignoring the looks she got.
