Law passed to help nursing moms travelling in airports

A law recently passed in the senate that will require major airports to provide separate lactation spaces for moms (that is not a bathroom!) within the next 2 years. This is great news especially for moms who need to pump and can’t find a space during long travel days – which is more common than you think, considering only 8 airports were found to supply adequate space in a recent survey. Progress! http://www.mcclatchydc.com/news/politics-government/congress/article72673987.html

  1. Best news I have read all week! As a working mom who travels often for work, I’m betting this will really increase the length of time women breastfeed.

  2. This is a good thing. Especially for those of us who do NOT want to be forced to see mothers breastfeeding their kids in public. I breast fed all three of my children, but I did so discreetly, in private, and without the ‘in your face’ attitude that so many publicly breastfeeding mothers seem to have these days. Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should. Have some class and consideration for others.

    1. I agree this law is definitely a good thing in that it gives mom a choice if they want to breastfeed or pump in private (the latter always being harder to swing in public, that’s for sure!). Luckily this will not force moms to feel that they need to feed their babies in private, as many (myself included!) find nursing in public can be done discreetly and easily, but choice is always good – just like the choice to look away if you don’t want to see a baby eating!
