Personal Choice?
I overheard a few moms at my son’s school this morning sharing their concerns over giving certain vaccines to their children. As a mother, would you jump into this conversation to promote the benefits of immunizing your child or do you think it is a personal choice? How would you respond?
I would jump in! Not just to promote the benefits, but to promote having an honest conversation with your pediatrician… So many parents ask their friends but don’t ask professionals who actually read and conduct the research.
I totally agree with Stephanie. Also, I’ve found that people don’t really research what vaccines do for the population as a whole. When I point people to resources that can help explain why vaccines help everyone, they’re usually surprised.
I find it annoying how people who choose not to vaccinate think they are smarter than the scientist and doctors who have worked and researched this field their entire career. I also find it ignorant that they try to bully those that choose to vaccinate.
I would be tempted to jump in. As the mother of a child with a primary immune deficiency (which makes her more susceptible to illness), I can’t help but take it personally when my daughter is put at risk because of other people’s misguided choices.
I feel for you. How do parents get away with sending their children to school without any vaccinations and plead it “religious reasons” to become exempt. Personally I would feel it’s my right as a parent to know that my child is exposed to other children that are not vaccinated.
I totally agree with all of the above comments. It is foolish not to vaccinate. My ex and I argued about this for quite some time, but in the end I won this one. I feel parents are doing harm to their children by not vaccinating and harm to other peoples children. If you dont want to vaccinate, that is fine, but dont bring your children around mine!
