Phthalates may be linked to preterm birth

And I say “may” because this study was not really designed to be able to make that statement 100%.
In this study, women’s urine samples were collected over their pregnancy. Women with higher phthalate levels gave birth prematurely more often. This study noted that correlation, but could not say it was a causation (that is, could be directly blamed on the chemical itself).
Phthalates are often found in plastics and many shampoos, creams, and other cosmetics. I personally avoid them when I can (and a few other nasty chemicals) by carefully selecting my shampoos, soaps etc. Do you?

  1. Hmmm… I am about to shower and inspect my product selection!

  2. I had heard about the dangers of some of the chemicals used in toiletries and cosmetics before getting pregnant. I tried to weed them out as best I could but it’s truly difficult unless you REALLY scour the internet for organic products! I hate that there aren’t many options available at your typical CVS or Target. Even Neutrogena naturals collection has some gunk in it, but not as much from what I can tell.
