Raising A Perfectionist

I never knew how much of a perfectionist I was until my daughter started fretting over anything being perfect. Her bed, her hair, her clothes….any one else have a child with these tendencies? It can be overwhelming to handle…I found some of these articles helpful.

  1. I’ve been noticing this with my 3 year old lately! She totally gets it from me and I found this article very helpful (especially the modeling). Her teacher even mentioned it to me (she panics if her shirt comes untucked from her uniform or her book bag strap gets twisted when she puts it on). Total perfectionist! Thanks for sharing!

  2. I too suffer from the affliction of perfectionism and can regularly beat myself up when I do not live up to my own expectations for myself, my day, and even my children. I believe this to be something that is both a natural part of our personalities (meaning we are born with it) and something learned or reinforced by our surroundings and the people we look up to. To the extent that it is learned we can definitely pass this on to our children, along with the stress and frustration that goes with it. One of the best things we can do as perfectionist parents is to watch how hard we are on ourselves and how we express that disappointment when a person, event or task does not completely match our high expectations. I love the tips outlined in this blog! The sooner perfectionism is addressed the easier it can be to manage.
