Speech Evaluation

One of my twins is being evaluated by a Pediatric Speech therapist, what kind of questions should I ask?

  1. Typically in an evaluation for a 2 year old, the therapist will ask you a series of questions about your child’s ability to use and understand language. The therapist will likely also observe your child playing, interact directly with her, and ask her to do specific tasks. If therapy is or is not recommended, make sure you receive a clear explanation of why or why not. If it’s determined your child needs therapy, I recommend finding out how involved the therapist wants you to be in the sessions, since research has shown better outcomes when parents are actively involved in their child’s early language intervention.

    1. Thank you! We had her appointment and she was recommended for speech therapy. The ST set up a series of questions, and basically played with her just like you described. I will have her “score” on Friday but most likely she will be going about twice a week.
