Toddler in daycare for the first time

I’m sending my toddler to daycare for the first time, and I am terrified. I’m mostly worried about her sleep schedule. She is used to sleeping in a dark, quiet room alone. Now she’ll be in a crib with other babies in the room. What can I do to prepare her for the transition?

  1. Daycare can be a big transition for sure. There is not too much to do at home to prepare her for this day. It will be strange and possibly difficult in the beginning to acclimate to the new sleep environment. Ask your daycare what items they suggest you bring to make her more cozy and comfortable. Something special that reminds her of home might be great. Realize that toddlers are so smart and often adapt better than we expect. After a week or two you may find that she naps just fine both at home and in daycare – despite the differences.
