Parents at cookouts and your kid’s browser history: the best in parenting this week
To apologize for the two tearjerkers I just had to include, I present to you lots of laughs.
1. Couple uses #ShareACoke to announce their pregnancy
This creative pregnancy announcement is probably the best thing to come out of the #ShareACoke campaign yet.
2. Baby’s jam
Who knew Katy Perry was the answer to soothe a fussy baby? This baby’s arm moves and facial expressions are priceless!
3. “Apparently” this kid needs a career in broadcasting
Take a long look at this little boy. He’ll be delivering our news in 10 years.
That clip went viral, so WNEP-TV just had to get another interview with Noah Ritter (and so did Good Morning America!).
4. What putting twins to bed is like
This video depicts the struggles twin parents go through at bedtime.
5. When love feels heavy
This raw and candid description of parenting a newborn is a must read for new parents. If nothing else, know you are not alone. The early days are tough.
6. What parents learned about their kids by checking their browser history
My daughter isn’t old enough to have secrets like these yet, but I laughed pretty hard at a few of these.
7. Grieving parents share a beautiful photoshoot with their stillborn baby girl
Of all the horrors that can happen as a parent, losing a child is the one we don’t dare even breathe aloud. These parents will never get to experience the little horrors that make our everyday complaints: a colicky baby who won’t stop crying, a toddler tantrum over the “right” color bowl or a preschooler who won’t accept a “no” on Monster High Dolls. They’ve shared some beautiful photos in their daughter’s memory, but warning: no matter how thick your skin, these are very emotional images.
8. Cheers to Friday!
9. Dad steps down as CEO to spend more time with his kids
“I have been asked what kind of car I drive and what type of music I like, but never how I balance the demands of being both a dad and a CEO….While the press haven’t asked me, it is a question that I often ask myself.” Read his story. On the flip side, people are complaining that it’s sad that a man resigning to take care of his kids makes national news.
10. Anthem for boys who wear dresses
For all the little boys out there who like to wear dresses, Grammy-nominated band The Pop Ups has produced a fun anthem proving it’s okay to “wear what you like.”
11. ‘Kickin It With My Daddy’
This 10-year-old’s rap skills are impressive. And judging by lyrics “Two times in a row I made student of the month,” she’s talented in other ways, too!
12. High schoolers produce controversial documentary on childhood immunizations
Upcoming journalists and Carlsbad, California students didn’t heed their teacher’s warnings or worry about the controversy they would create when they set out to execute an 18-month project that would investigate the relationship between childhood immunizations and autism.
13. What I learned after taking a homeless mother grocery shopping
“I look at this list and can’t help but wonder how she’s supposed to do it. If $11 of apples equals two snacks but $3 in Ramen will feed her entire family for dinner, how can she possibly pick apples with her limited food stamp budget?” An eye-opening look at how difficult it is to feed your family healthy foods when food stamps don’t cover them and you have no fridge to store them in.
14. Parents at cookouts
Pretty sure I’ve said this in one way or another before!
15. Two new hot car death prevention devices
With forgotten baby syndrome and new cases of hot car deaths still top of mind, inventors are working hard to invent a product that could keep an accidental tragedy from happening to loving parents and caregivers. Check out Guardian Cam and Starfish, two new promising ones in the making.
16. Affordable, well-made Elsa costumes… finally
If you’ve been looking for an Elsa dress that doesn’t break the bank or have awful reviews, this one just might be it.
17. How beautiful breastfeeding truly is
