QOD: When should I bring my baby to the family meal table?

You want to bring your baby to the family meal table as soon as you can!

Babies learn a lot about food and eating by being at the table with other eaters. For example, they figure out what a fork, knife and spoon actually do, watch others chew and the mechanics involved, and see how food is brought from plate to mouth. Believe it or not, your baby is bonding with the family and gaining a sense of “family.” Even if your baby is not eating real food yet, he or she gains the experience of community, conversation, and watching others navigate food and eating.
