Is it OK to let your baby “cry it out?”

Yes, babies cry. That’s how they communicate with you, but they just don't have the vocabulary to express themselves. In time you will learn what your baby is trying to tell you.

Here are some things your baby might be saying:

  • I’m hungry
  • I want something to suck on
  • I’m tired
  • I need a fresh diaper
  • I want to move around or even change locations
  • Pay attention to me!
  • I’m hot or cold
  • I’m lonely
  • I’m not happy (this is their way of complaining about something).
  • They even complain to blow off steam!

If you have tried everything reasonable and your baby is still crying, that’s OK. Make sure they are safe and secure and do everything you need to do. In time they will learn to be more patient. Remember that it's not in their best interest for you to jump at their every whim and give them the impression that the world revolves around them.
