QOD: How often should I offer fruit to my toddler?

Young toddlers (1-3 years old) need 2-3 servings of fruit each day.

A serving size is 1/2 of a small piece of fruit, 1/3 cup of canned or frozen fruit, or a 1/4 to 1/3 cup of 100 percent fruit juice.

Older toddlers and preschoolers (aged 4-5 years old) also need 2-3 servings each day, but the portion size is slightly larger: 1/2-1 small piece of fruit, 1/2  cup of canned or frozen fruit, or 1/2  cup 100 percent fruit juice.

Offer fruit to your child with every meal and snack to increase the odds of meeting the daily requirement.

  1. Apparently I grew up not eating a lot of fruit and it definitely shows now because I only like about a handful of different kinds and I find myself rarely adding it to my daily diet. I know how important fruit is so I started giving my girls a variety of fruits when they were infants and they now love many different kinds. I just hope they continue to eat it like they do now well into their adolescence.
