Is it normal for my baby to get a fever while teething?

No, it's not necessarily normal, but every baby is different.

While the pediatric literature does not support the concept that babies who are teething normally get fevers, rashes, or diarrhea, each mother will get to know her infant’s teething patterns individually! In general, what we can say is that if your child has not previously had a problem when teething but now has a fever or illness, it would be remiss to simply blame teething without a good physical exam. So, it’s a good idea to make an appointment with your pediatrician to discuss the issue.

  1. Yes, I wouldn’t just assume all is ok if your little one gets a fever because he or she may be teething. If the fever lasts more than a couple days, I think it’s always better to get them looked at!

  2. Both of mine would have a slight raise in temp but nothing too drastic.

  3. I agree that it is a good idea to get things checked out. My son had a fever at the same time that some teeth were coming in. It would have been very easy to blame it on teething, but it turned out to be an ear infection.
