Recently, formula companies have released new lower-protein infant formulas that are less energy dense in an attempt to reduce or prevent childhood obesity. So does this mean that your baby should drink this new formula? Not necessarily.
There are no studies that prove these formulas are safe OR effective. These formulas have decreased the amount of protein and calories by approximately 5 percent, but it is unclear if this is even healthier in the long run. There are so many choices when it comes to infant formulas (soy, lactose free, added pre or probiotics, low iron), so be sure to discuss with your pediatrician which one is right for your baby.
