QOD: How much protein does my child need?

The amount of protein your child needs depends on his age, gender, and body weight.

The average baby (weighing 13-20 pounds) needs about 13 grams per day, which is typically met by drinking breast milk or infant formula and eventually eating solid foods such as egg, meat, and cheese.

The average toddler weighing 29 pounds needs about 16 grams per day, and the preschooler weighing an average of 44 pounds requires about 24 grams per day. Note that the daily amount is a minimum requirement and varies based on growth and body weight.
