Can wearing a seatbelt be harmful if I’m pregnant?

When worn correctly, a seatbelt will not harm your baby and can actually save both your life and your baby's life if you get in a collision. Buckle up!

Every time you get in a car, pregnant or not, you should wear a lap-shoulder belt. As your belly expands, it is important to wear the lap belt bellow the abdomen, low on your hips. Never put it above or across your belly. Make sure the shoulder strap goes across your chest (between the breasts) and not under your arm or off your shoulder. The belt should fit snuggly—never too loose or too tight.
