Possibly, but there are ways to make it better if it does.
Postpartum sex can be scary to some women and men alike. Once you’ve been cleared by your doctor or midwife to have sex, it is possible that it may hurt when you first try. There are some things you can do to help if this is the case for you, such as:
- Allow for enough foreplay to help with natural lubrication, or use a lubricant.
- Try different positions to see what is most comfortable.
- Wear a supportive bra, especially if you are breastfeeding and you notice discomfort.
- Stop and try again another time, realizing that you are not a failure if the first time you try to have sex is unsuccessful. This is very common and very normal.
