Absolutely! In fact, these are preferable as they are risk-free to you and your developing baby.
Colds are common nuisances in pregnancy! Many women want to avoid taking unnecessary medications in pregnancy, and with a cold there are many things you can try to help your symptoms that don’t involve a prescription. These include:
- Making sure you get adequate rest and nutrition
- Saline nasal sprays
- Using a humidifier
- Salt water gargling
- Sore throat lozenges
Of course, if you have a fever, are not improving, or feel unwell enough to keep food or liquids down or take care of yourself, be sure to let your doctor or midwife know.

I use a neti pot when I have nasal congestion and it helps so much. Is it safe to use one when you are pregnant?
Yes, they work great for many people and are safe! Just be sure to follow the safe water guidelines (very important) – you can read more about that here: http://www.fda.gov/ForConsumers/ConsumerUpdates/ucm316375.htm
Awesome! Thank you so much!
