Does singing to infants have any benefit for babies?

Any new parent knows intuitively that babies calm when they are sung to. However, researchers have now proven that singing to infants has a benefit for both mom AND the baby.

A new study of premature babies in the NICU found that infants who were held skin-to-skin and sung to by their mothers had a decrease in heart rate. These mothers also had a significant decrease in their anxiety level when singing. So even if you cannot carry a tune, don’t be shy—your baby will be soothed by your voice. After all, they have been listening to it for 9 months from the womb!

  2. I love singing to my little guy. It’s so off tune, and he is probably the only one who enjoys it! 🙂
