What are MUFAs?

MUFA stands for mono-unsaturated fatty acids, which are some of the healthiest fats to include in your family’s diet.

Like all other fats, monounsaturated fats contain 9 calories per gram, but they add a healthy quality to your diet. Getting your family used to eating moderate amounts of MUFAs now can help curb medical conditions, like heart disease and stroke, later on. To increase the amount of MUFAs in your family’s diet, include more plant-based liquid fats, such as olive oil, canola oil, safflower oil, and other MUFA-rich foods like avocados, peanut butter, and many nuts and seeds.
