When can my child return to school or daycare after being diagnosed with strep throat?

A new study published in the Pediatric Infectious Disease Journal finds that children who are treated with just one dose of Amoxicillin after a positive strep test are safe to return to school the following day, as long as they no longer have fever and feel better.

Over 90 percent of children who received a dose of antibiotic the day prior tested negative for strep the very next morning. However, this doesn’t mean one dose is sufficient, it is very important to complete the entire course of antibiotic that your doctor has prescribed. It should result in fewer missed days of school for the kids and fewer sick days that parents have to take off work!
