5 ways you might be missing a drowning victim

Vertical Body Position

Many swimmers remain horizontal along the water but a drowning victim’s body would be vertical.

While one may find a typical swimmer horizontal along the water, kicking and moving through it, that’s not the case for a drowning victim. A person fighting for air would remain vertical in the water, unable to support his or her body with various swimming techniques.

  1. Excuse if you take this the wrong way, but the title states “no arm waving” shouldn’t it read “know arm waving”?

    1. Hi, Katy! One of the unfortunate ways people don’t recognize drowning is because the victims frequently don’t wave their arms. Instead they just slip under water. So it’s actually “no” waving visible.
