Most parents believe that their baby is special. But what if your baby is more special — like a genius? With over 3 million kids in grades K-12 recognized as academically gifted, it’s definitely possible. The National Association for Gifted Children and the American Association of Gifted Children at Duke University say there are a few traits that can be early indicators that your child is gifted.
What are the early indicators?
I have twin grandsons that are nine years old. Ever since they were a year and a half till now have been very difficult to raise because of their intelligence level. They are two of six children and are beyond gifted. Extremely intelligent but then yet cannot write legibly. Are having problems in school because of writing, because they are perfectionist cannot even put down in words what they are thinking! Very excruciating to raise children like this! Genius children with disabilities that come along with that! Reading constantly and even bringing the dictionary with them wherever they go.. Where and how can you get help for these little boys?! They have tried having them type also and they just continue to eat race because they are unhappy with what they put down! Please help!
Hi Rhonda, perhaps an occupational therapist could help with some of the fine motor skills your grandsons are struggling with. Hopefully they are in an academic setting that can work with their individual strengths and weaknesses. At this age, you and their parents need to be their number one advocate at school to ensure they have an individualized learning plan so they can thrive. Best of luck!
