Week 27

Your baby is now 25 weeks of age and can now survive outside of the womb, although with lengthy hospital stays. More in week 27. © Medical-Artist.com

Welcome to the third trimester (see what happens in the second trimester)! By now you may have gained about 17 pounds. Cramps may be regular and you may start experiencing swelling in your hands and feet. Exercise can help alleviate some of these uncomfortable symptoms.

Your baby weighs roughly 2 lbs. and is about the size of a cauliflower. By now, he or she can recognize the sound of your voice and your partner’s.

  1. Can I please get a response to my question if I could still be pregnant and it’s also been 4 months without a period and light spotting a couple times

    1. You waited 5 minutes until your next post… If he did a pee test and it came back negative you’re not pregnant. Also if you’ve taken home tests and they came back negative I would ask my doctor to look into why I have not had a menstrual cycle in four months, actually, I would demand it.

  3. Hi! My daughter was 20 days away from her due date she went to bed Thursday and could feel the baby moving woke up Friday and she hadn’t felt her moving which was odd. She called her dr she told her to drink oj and wait a couple hours which I thought was crazy! Long story short my granddaughter was gone they could not find a heart beat . My daughter had to be forced into labor and deliver the baby which was stillborn the cord was twisted so tight in three separate areas on the cord to the point no oxygen or blood could get the cord! Like a “true knot” ! I am dumb found over this because I have had five kids and know a lot of woman who have had babies. I have never heard of this then when I researched I was shocked how many complications can happen with the cord! Why don’t the dr warn you to keep track of movements towards the end of pregnancy cause it could play an important role in avoiding this tragedy. I told my daughter she should be a voice and get the laws changed that the cord be checked more often and to have dr talk about this risk more and give more warnings and signs to look for ! We buried our sweet Presleigh about 2 weeks ago ! Heat broke for my daughter she was so excited about being a mommy ????

    1. Hi Stacey, I am so, so sorry this happened to you and your daughter. Doctors and midwives are definitely aware of this which is why we advice women to do fetal kick counts starting at about 28 weeks, which it sounds like what your daughter was told to do when she called. Unfortunately, we cannot predict or prevent all of these tragedies, which is so utterly heartbreaking. I am so, so sorry for your loss.

  5. I just found out 2 days ago from a home pregnancy test that I’m pregnant… I was 7 days late on my period. And currently I’m in the ER due to cramps and bleeding that started last night. I’m so scared and worried. Is this normal? what could be going on? The doctor came in and said my hg levels was low but he said that could just mean I’m not as far long as I think. But the first day of my last period was nov 12th and today is Dec 25th. So it should be about 6 weeks at this point so I don’t know and just confused. I just want my baby to be fine. They just did an ultrasound just waiting on my results. Pray for me.

    1. Hi Tiffany, have you gone to see your doc or midwife about this? It could certainly be sciatica or something called symphisis pubic dysfunction (you can read more about that here: https://www.bundoo.com/articles/spd-in-pregnancy/). Other things that can cause pain are here as well: http://www.bundoo.com/articles/top-10-causes-of-pain-in-pregnancy/

If you are still uncomfortable, I would definitely make a visit to discuss it, so you can be sure nothing is seriously wrong and get some ideas on how to feel better. Good luck!

  8. Hi I’m Carol my daughter is on her third (first full term pregnancy). I’m a bit scared for her at this point in her pregnancy because in 2009 she went all the way and we ended up losing the baby due to asphyxiation of the umbilical cord. I spoke to her yesterday and she is a bit scared but I had to remind her that she is in the best hands right now. She had 5 of the best top Dr’s in our city that deals with high risk pregnancies. She sneezes they know about it. They monitor so much she doesnt even need an appointment anymore she just goes in for her 3 days a week check in.

  9. Hi. Iam 38weeks and one day n I have a lot pain down there and both areas it hurt so bad this my second one…

    1. Yes, the second (and third and fourth…) can often be more uncomfortable than first pregnancies given the lack of rest moms usually get, as well as muscles and ligaments being stretched more. Good luck! If it gets really bad, definitely check in with your doctor or midwife to make sure it’s not more than the normal aches and pains.

    1. Hi Tarea, I would definitely check in with your doctor or midwife about your symptoms, as they could be signs of preterm labor. Hopefully it isn’t and it is just related to this being pregnancy #4, but you can’t be too careful – give them a call!
