Baby development: Your 6 month old

Learning emotions

Although your baby experiences a few basic emotions, he or she will learn about what they mean through observation.

Just after your baby’s first month of life, he or she began to recognize other’s emotions. Over time, your baby will learn about emotions by observing others. As a result, the emotions you display around and toward your baby will impact how he or she sees the world — positive emotions give your baby security, while negative emotions can make the world seem like a harsh place.
