Before your baby is even born, there are a few steps you can take when setting up your nursery to make sure your baby is safe when changing diapers. By setting up your nursery with safety and convenience in mind, those middle-of-the-night diaper changes will be a breeze.
Choosing a changing pad and table
It begins with your changing area. A changing surface should always be sturdy and stable. Your changing pad should either have a strap that attaches to the back of the dresser or a non-slip bottom.
Keeping your baby safe during a diaper change
To keep your baby safe, always secure the safety strap when changing the diaper. But don’t let this lure you into a false sense of security. Never leave your baby unattended, and always keep one hand on the baby when changing the diaper.
Creating the right diaper-changing setup
Everything you need when changing the diaper should be right in arm’s reach. A great way to do this is to have a diaper caddy where you can have your diapers, wipes, hand sanitizer, and creams all right on hand. Also, if you use a diaper genie or a diaper pail, it’s good to have it close to your diaper changing area to make it convenient. A few simple steps can keep your little one safe when changing diapers.
